Sunset cruising from Port Albert with Port Albert Fishin’ Charters
The Lang family stayed at our Retreat late November for a couple of nights and enjoyed it so much they booked again in March for a week! They wrote an article for us to post in our newsletter with photos too of their fabulous cruise off Port Albert with Brian Spiteri of Port Albert Fishin’ Charters which I am happy to share with you all. We look forward to welcoming the Langs back again in March 2022! By the way, Brian was very accommodating for our guests and he and his partner Belinda looked after them extremely well. If you are thinking of coming to Port Albert again and would like to do a fishing charter or have a 2.5 hour cruise from Port Albert, give Brian a call. Here is the article.
It is family history that led us to the seaside village of Port Albert. In the 1850s, our ancestor Captain Thomas Haynes Lang sailed from Port Albert to Hobart transporting livestock and timber between the two ports. Port Albert was one of Victoria’s most bustling ports. To view Port Albert from the eyes of Captain Lang, we decided to explore the harbour and surrounding islands within the heads. My family joined Brian and Belinda from Port Albert Fishing Charters for a 2.5-hour sunset cruise. We met at the boat ramp and were made to feel extremely welcome and comfortable from the time we stepped on board. Sitting in the navigator’s chair next to Brian, the conversation flowed as we sailed past the sand islands, hearing the tragedy of the Clonmel wreck, Brian’s life as a volunteer coast guard, a whale that swam into the inlet and many other tales. It was “hold on” as we then zipped along to view the two entrances leading to the port, sailing past Scrubby Island, viewing Sunday Island with its hog deer, the old Port and learning about the shifting sands and navigation aids. It was smooth sailing with calm waters and breathtaking scenery. Bobbing on the water sipping a Prosecco watching the sunset with the mainland in the distance was magical as were the views of the Port Albert wharf as we cruised back into the harbour. A fabulous experience!
