A door to the past at Port Albert
I have a fascination for doors and what’s behind them! I’ve taken many photos of old doors over the years and this door is one of my favourite. This is the door to the FORMER TURNBULL, ORR & CO office on Wharf Street, Port Albert. It has intrigued me for many years as I imagined what stories this building could tell. The recently restored Bond Store is next door and now houses Port Albert Maritime Antiques which contains an amazing collection of beautifully presented antiques and art.
The Former Turnbull, Orr & Co Bond Store and Office are considered historically, archaeologically and architecturally important to the State of Victoria and probably the earliest surviving buildings in Port Albert and possibly among the oldest buildings in Gippsland. Their association with the commercial development of the port adds to their significance.
How wonderful it would be to see this building restored and brought back to life with a new use.
